Bob Wilkinson Natural Resources Department Development Services City of Fort Collins P.O. Box 580 Fort Collins, CO 80522 Dear Bob, F OCT30M Both you and Glen Schlueter have been very helpful to me as I've struggled to resolve some of the storm drainage and development issues I've encountered. I've found that strictly engineering solutions which may look good on paper, do not always fit in appearance or appeal with the neighborhood. This became evident when the Sunstone detention pond's natural area was bisected by concrete drainage pans. The attempt to create an appealing, natural open space and effectively handle necessary storm water has been a real learning experience for me. We have briefly discussed with the City staff trying something new in Timberline Farm (Sunstone Phase 5). The approved preliminary and the final currently under review, have presented a new, more natural wetland look in the detention pond. We think the quiet, natural area can be an amenity for the neighborhood, can accomodate drainage efficiently and create a natural wetland that will become a valuable community resource. To demonstrate the viability of this design alternative and to promote increased awareness for similar opportunities to create or enhance wetlands, I'd like to request the Natural Resources Department to participate in and help fund this project. The design is complete and the site will be graded as part of the development construction. I am seeking City funding for the wetland's plant and landscape materials. This project could be an appropriate and excellent use of a portion of the undesignated wetland mitigation funds held by the City. 401 West Mulberry Street Fort Collins, Colorado 80521 Telephone 303/221-0700 1: the group, inc.
