RE: Existing Tree Removal Feasibility Letter for The Foothills – Fort Collins (Sun Communities)
As a development team, we have conducted a tree field survey to determine the quantity, health, type, and size of all
trees within or immediately adjacent to the Limits of Disturbance (LOD) to our project – The Foothills. Though every
effort will be made to protect and retain existing healthy, mature trees, there are many trees within the LOD that are
not feasibly retainable due to future impact their critical root zones will sustain from essential infrastructure providing
access and drainage to the homesites. Proposed roadway connectors, wet / dry utility construction, drainage /
conveyance channels are some examples of these proposed infrastructure improvements affecting trees both during
construction and for the future health of the trees. Furthermore, our study has shown that many of the surveyed trees
were deemed unsubstantial in size, unhealthy, and / or already deceased prior to any disturbance of the area.
Please refer to sheet L0.04 – Tree Mitigation Plan for detailed information regarding each tree surveyed on the site.
For those trees removed, mitigation trees of like kind and size are proposed and indicated on the plans. In addition to
the required mitigation trees proposed, open space and trail areas are enhanced with trees and plantings that will
provide a pleasant experience for future Fort Collins residents.
