Collins consideration and approval for a variance to the 50’ setback requirement. The details provided below further support our design and are offered for your consideration: The Issue: The two proposed handicap spaces on the east side of Lake Street entrance to the parking lot fall within the 50’ setback zone. The Alternative Design: The two proposed handicap spaces may be modified and placed within the second 25’ of the 50’ setback. Comparing to Standards: The proposed placement of handicap parking spaces in the 50’ setback is requested with the intention that those with accessibility needs should have parking spaces located as close to their destination, as practical, and in a location that is visually obvious. Justification: The intent of the 50’ setback, as I understand it, is to mitigate the impact of vehicles backing into the adjacent roadway when making their exiting movement. The exit for this parking lot will occur along Lake Street, making it highly unlikely that a northbound back-up movement would occur when exiting the lot. If there is anything further, I can provide, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
