Waterfield PDP
Existing Tree Removal Feasibility Letter
This letter is intended to supplement the Mitigation Plan included in the Waterfield PDP submittal. A
majority of the existing trees located on the Waterfield site are of natural origin and consist of Siberian
elm, Russian olive, and Cottonwood trees. These trees are smaller in size with a DHB of less than 11”.
As depicted on the mitigation plan, a total of 26 trees or tree groupings are to be removed. The reason
for tree removal varies throughout the site, but includes the following:
A. Trees conflict with grading for detention ponds which will serve the Waterfield development as
well as the adjacent Bull Run development to the east
B. Trees conflict with design of site plan where houses are proposed
C. Trees conflict with proposed streets including streets depicted on the City of Fort Collins Master
Streets Plan
D. Less desirable species located in high visibility areas
The following trees are proposed to be removed for the reasons associated with the list provided above:
Tree 1 removed due to D
Tree 2 removed due to B
Tree 3 removed due to B
Tree 5 removed due to B
Tree 6 removed due to D

A more detailed depiction of the location of trees which are being removed in relation to the proposed
site plan can be found on the Mitigation Plan included in this submittal. To mitigate for the removed
trees which have been deemed to provide significant value by the City Forester, replacement trees will
be provided at the increased size per Division 3.2.1 (F)(1) of the Fort Collins Land Use Code. For trees
removed which are under the required DBH per Division 3.2.1 (F)(2) of the code, additional mitigation
will be provided through the addition of plant communities located in the Natural Habitat Buffers. These
plant communities are intended to provide additional habitat for local wildlife.
