The green belt consists of pine, spruce and ash trees, and all are in good to fair condition. Site also includes various pre-existing above ground utilities such as high voltage overhead power lines, light posts, and two power junction boxes. Impact Report: Low Impact Potential There are two green ash within a 16 to 18 foot zone of the construction site. Concerns of impact pertain primarily to these two trees. The impact concerns are: construction soil compaction; inadvertent trunk and limb damage from construction activity; and root damage from excavation. Tree Description The two ash trees are described as follows: 17 inch diameter at breast height (dbh) and 15 inch dbh. Each tree is approximately 20 feet tall and both trees are “C” grade quality (Grades A-F; “A” grade meaning specimen quality and “F” grade meaning extremely poor condition). Management Options: Option 1) Preservation of the two ash trees periodic needs and considerations: • Tree pruning once every three years to reduce deadwood accumulation and improve health and structure. • Treatments for emerald ash borer (EAB). • Root excavation and root pruning for construction impact reduction. • Installation and removal of tree protection zone before and after construction. Benefits: Trees are already established, and have inherent value in the landscape. They will provide immediate screening of the new tower and will reduce the visual impact of construction and the tower presence. Option 2) (Recommended) Remove and replace the two ash trees: • Removal. • Replacement. • Recommended species list (but not limited to these species): ◦ honeylocust, linden, Sensation maple, chinkapin oak, crabapple, hawthorn Benefits: Overall lower long term costs by selection of a more suitable tree for the site. Also eliminates the need for continued EAB treatments for the existing “C” grade ash trees. Additionally, there is no need for stress management due to construction impacts. This option is our recommendation. James Knotts Certified Arborist #RM-2539AT Brian Hadley Certified Arborist #RM-7933A
