Subject: RE: Tree Inventory for New Construction
Hi Jeff,
Ah, yes! This rings a bell. My coworker, Nils Saha (copied), provided comments for this project. We visited the site together back in February and from what we could see there is
only one tree on-site: a Siberian elm less than 11”. The Land Use Code does not require Siberian elm trees less than 11” in diameter to be mitigated. If you could please include
this information in table format on the landscape plan (see below) along with the attached City of Fort Collins General Landscape, Tree Protection, Street Tree, and Street Tree
Permit notes that would be great. If there any trees we didn’t see from the street, let’s meet on-site and collect the rest of the inventory information.
# Species DBH Condition Mitigation
1 Siberian Elm <11 Fair No mitigation
required

Molly,
Our Civil Engineer passed this along to me. Evidently they have submitted a conceptual review already which is attached.

Thank you for your message. What is the name of the hotel and where is it located? Have you submitted an application through the development review process? Typically I
don’t meet applicants on-site for a tree inventory until they’ve submitted through the conceptual or preliminary design review process.
When you submit an application through this process, I will review your plans and make a comment to meet on-site to obtain existing tree inventory and mitigation information.
I collect species, diameter at breast height (DBH), condition, and a mitigation value. The mitigation value equals the number of trees that have to go back on-site at an upsized
caliper based on the number of trees proposed to be removed. Existing, significant trees should be retained to the extent reasonably feasible. If you must remove trees from the
site, you will need to submit an Existing Tree Removal Feasibility Letter detailing the reasons why the trees cannot be retained on-site. City Forestry and Planning review this
document and either approve tree removal or suggest alternative methods for the project to explore in order to retain trees.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you,

Molly,
We are beginning work on a new hotel and I am aware of a requirement for an existing tree inventory. Can you share with me the criteria and required information for the tree inventory?
I
assume that this would include locations, sizes, species and general condition of existing on-site trees but would like to confirm this. Also, if we need to do tree removal due to conflicts
with the
proposed improvements, are there steps to take for this?
Thank you,
