(WSRI) is a full- service environmental contracting corporation consisting of landscape and reclamation divisions. Included stream bank restoration and landscaping. Planted over 400 trees, 2,500 shrubs, and 80,000 plugs. Built custom irrigation system. OWNER | Woodward Technology/City of Fort Collins PROJECT: WOODWARD TECHNOLOGY CENTER LANDSCAPING WESTERN STATES RECLAMATION 7 CLIENT | Level 3 Communications LOCATION | Broomfield, CO DESCRIPTION | WSRI contracted to complete this large office campus landscape project. Scope of work included planting several hundred trees, shrubs, and groundcovers around buildings, medians, and entry roadway. Keystone retaining walls were constructed in areas around buildings to mitigate steep grade changes. Installed complete irrigation system which included spray zones, rotor zones, shrub misters, and drip zones throughout the office campus. Irrigation system included central computer system controllers. Completed 28 acres of soil compost application, finish grading, rock picking, native grass seeding with straw mulching, bluegrass seed, and bluegrass sod. Project was completed in less than three months’ time. There was no water source on or near the project, so WSRI designed an irrigation system that could connect to hydroseeder trucks to increase efficiency. WSRI worked with the client to value engineer and redesign many areas of the project to provide a pleasant atmosphere around the substation. CONTRACT AMOUNT | $110,000 ARCHITECT | Xcel Energy OWNER | Xcel Energy PROJECT: FITZSIMMONS SUBSTATION WESTERN STATES RECLAMATION 9 CLIENT | CDOT and Boulder County Open Space & Mountain Parks LOCATION | Boulder, CO DESCRIPTION | The goal of this project was to create a wetland on Boulder Open Space property that mitigated the environmental impacts of the large CDOT project on Hwy 36 into Boulder. WSRI worked with Rocky Mountain Excavating to turn the 25-acre cattle pasture into a functional wetland area. 885 square yards of 12-inch-deep wetland sod and associated topsoil were transplanted to the wetland site from the Hwy 36 construction project, as well as 5 threatened Ute Ladies Tresses orchids. Other tasks on the project include 25 acres of native upland and wetland seeding, soil conditioning, mulching, and planting more than 18,000 shrubs, wetland plugs, and willow cuttings. WSRI is now in the 2-year maintenance phase of the project. CLIENT | Zak Dirt LOCATION | Loveland, CO DESCRIPTION | Planted 40 trees and 400 shrubs. Completed 17 acres of native seeding, mulching, and erosion control. Installed large limestone decorative rock slabs in an upright position secured in concrete footings. CONTRACT AMOUNT | $98,000 ARCHITECT | Stantech OWNER | CDOT PROJECT: US 36 WETLAND CONSTRUCTION PROJECT: POUDRE REST AREA HIGHWAY PROJECTS (DOT) 10 WESTERN WESTERN STATES RECLAMATION STATES RECLAMATION | 02 CLIENT | SEMA Construction LOCATION | Aurora, CO DESCRIPTION | Installed large quantities of trees, shrubs, and ground cover on new flyover interchange at I-225 and Parker Rd. Installed comprehensive irrigation system complete with satellite control system. Completed 1-year maintenance period consisting of mowing, weed control, pruning, fertilization, and irrigation system operation. Irrigation system included central control clocks linked to the City of Colorado Springs Parks Department Office. WSRI crews completed all soil tillage, native seeding, straw mulching, and tackifier application on I-25 medians and road shoulders. CONTRACT AMOUNT | $2,100,000 ARCHITECT | Mike Banovich OWNER | CDOT PROJECT: I-225 AND PARKER — LANDSCAPE PROJECT: REALIGNMENT OF I-25 THROUGH COLORADO SPRINGS WESTERN STATES RECLAMATION 11 CLIENT | Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) LOCATION | Lafayette, CO DESCRIPTION | Installation of 2.5 miles of irrigated landscape on Highway 287. Scope of work included installation of trees, shrubs, and ground cover. Over 24 acres of roadway received soil preparation, finish grading, and seeding or sod placement. WSRI set up an onsite mining and screening operation to meet CDOT specifications for a topsoil/ compost blend. The irrigation system consisted of over 5 miles of mainline and a satellite- controlled system linked to the City of Lafayette’s facilities. WSRI received a change order to block-repair a two-tier section of retaining wall that was failing. Wall repair required removal of block and poor soil, import of structural fill, soil nailing, and soil cement. WSRI completed a 1-year maintenance program that consisted of mowing, power edging, herbicide applications, fertilization, debris removal, irrigation system programming, and annual pruning of all plant materials. CONTRACT AMOUNT | $366,000 OWNER | Vista Ridge Development Corporation PROJECT: VISTA RIDGE – TRAILSCAPE 14 WESTERN WESTERN STATES RECLAMATION STATES RECLAMATION | 02 CLIENT | Shaw Construction LOCATION | Aspen, CO DESCRIPTION | WSRI was selected to complete landscape and irrigation installation on this very luxurious condominium timeshare complex. Project scope included installation of 140 trees, 1,707 shrubs/grasses/perennials, sod, boulders, retaining walls, and complete irrigation system. A conveyor system was used to transport and drop soil into patio-level planters. A crane was utilized to place 16-foot spruce into a lower-level courtyard. All landscape and irrigation work efforts had to be completed on very tight spaces while working around and with other subcontractors. Also, the work schedule was very condensed due to the owner’s desire for an early opening of the facility for the holiday season. CONTRACT AMOUNT | $1,298,000 OWNER | DR Horton Melody Series PROJECT: HYATT GRAND ASPEN PROJECT: VISTA POINTE WESTERN STATES RECLAMATION 15 CLIENT | Maryvale Village, LLC LOCATION | Fraser, CO DESCRIPTION | Rendezvous is a very prestigious mountain housing community close to the Winter Park ski area. The project focus was on installation of native grasses, wildflowers, trees, shrubs, and ground covers on mountain slopes adjacent to access roads. Superior erosion control products were utilized to stabilize steep slopes until grasses, wildflowers, and plant materials could be established. A very extensive spray-and- drip system was installed on steep and rocky terrain. The irrigation system was utilized to establish native grasses and wildflowers as well as irrigate newly installed plant materials. Most of the planting was completed on steep slopes of the development. Planting was done successfully by using ropes and pulleys to lower the trees into place. CONTRACT AMOUNT | $1,063,000 OWNER | Bromley Park Metropolitan District PROJECT: BRIGHTON EAST FARMS FILING II WESTERN STATES RECLAMATION 17 CLIENT | Silverbrook Estates LOCATION | Kalispell, MT DESCRIPTION | Landscape and irrigation installation in a housing development. Over 1,100 trees planted throughout the development. 182 irrigation zones installed and maintained over the 2-year building period. WSRI was able to team local labor with senior WSRI superintendents to complete the project on time and within budget. This project displays the ability of WSRI to work on projects throughout the western United States. Duties included mowing sod, weed trimming, edging, fertilizing, tree pruning, winter watering, aerating, chemical applications, litter control, weeding, and irrigation startup and blowout. A 1-year contract was awarded after construction was complete. Duties included mowing, fertilizing, chemical application, aeration, trash removal, winter watering, pruning, and irrigation maintenance. CONTRACT AMOUNT | $175,000 OWNER | Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) PROJECT: REALIGNMENT OF I-25 THROUGH COLORADO SPRINGS WESTERN STATES RECLAMATION 21 CLIENT | Pitkin County LOCATION | Redstone, CO DESCRIPTION | Pitkin County wanted to highlight Redstone’s historic “coke ovens,” which are very important to the area’s heritage. After a lengthy bidding process, Pitkin trusted WSRI to turn a blighted piece of ground into a focal point for the community to celebrate its past and enjoy its open space. WSRI had to solve many challenges to develop the project, but foremost was the need to design a system to bring water to Elk Park from another park, which required irrigation lines to cross Crystal River. WSRI responded with a fully automated irrigation system that effectively addressed the water needs by bringing water under an existing bridge— providing water and avoiding an eyesore. To complete this project, WSRI had to remove an unsightly asphalt parking lot, do light earthwork, and put its design skills to the test. PROJECT: ELK PARK PARKS AND GOLF COURSES 22 WESTERN WESTERN STATES RECLAMATION STATES RECLAMATION | 02 “WSRI HAS DONE AN EXCELLENT JOB,” SAID LINDSAY UTTER, RECREATION PLANNER, PITKIN COUNTY OPEN SPACE AND TRAILS. “WE LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH WSRI TO FINISH A FEW DETAILS IN THE SPRING AND REDSTONE IS VERY EXCITED TO START USING THEIR NEW PARK.” PROJECT: ELK PARK WESTERN STATES RECLAMATION 23 CLIENT | City of Aurora LOCATION | Aurora, CO DESCRIPTION | Project consisted of improving existing picnic shelters by the reservoir. Construction included installing a new irrigation system with Netafim for the drip portion. Also included in the construction were a new stone retaining wall, concrete mow strips, concrete edging, culverts, plastic fencing, drill-seeding, and hydromulching. Installed irrigation system consisting of spray heads and drip-pipe to water trees and shrubs during growing season. WSRI completed a 3-year landscape and irrigation maintenance program to sustain plant materials. LOCATION | Castle Rock, CO DESCRIPTION | Chenoweth & Associates, LLC was initially hired through DHM Design Corporation to perform soil testing and interpretation, preparation of numerous native grass seed mixtures, (including a manicured turf-type seed mixture), and for short-term/long-term maintenance specifications. CLIENT | Castle Rock Development Company LOCATION | Castle Rock, CO DESCRIPTION | Chenoweth & Associates, LLC provided environmental consulting on a planned community. Soil sampling and analysis were used initially to evaluate trouble spots on previously revegetated areas. A comprehensive revegetation plan was designed with multiple native grass seed mixtures to fit site-specific soils and geographic conditions. To that end, WSRI has implemented a progressive safety action plan that keeps the safe and careful operation of equipment top of mind. Our crew members routinely attend safety training at the beginning of each and every job. Our supervisors hold daily crew meetings to discuss on-site safety hazards, issues, and concerns, which are followed up by weekly toolbox safety meetings to reinforce safety procedures and address any questions or concerns employees may have. Supervisors also meet weekly with the owner to re-cap any issues and discuss any new safety items.
