1. Tree number count:
I think it would make it clearer to have just one line called trees to remain on site which is 84 for current and proposed. After
the 84 in the proposed site column then in parenthesis say (40 required to receive tree protection during construction and 44 are
away from construction zones and do not require specified protection). This should show how the 84 on the proposed are
distributed between protected and not being fenced or protected. – Revised as requested
Please review actual counts. In my review, and I may have miss-counted, but did come up with the following totals:
40 trees marked with P as exiting and protected. This would leave 44 as existing and not requiring protection with fencing or
other means. – 42 was the correct count (+2 additional requested in #2 below = 44 to protect/40 unprotected)
37 new trees – 38 was and is the correct count.
Reconcile any slight differences in number trees to be transplanted on the different sheets by using the actual number in the tree
mitigation table. Tree number 17 is marked to transplant on the mitigation plan but is identified for removal in the Tree
mitigation table. – Revised as requested
2. Please mark two existing trees just east of the parking lot to remain with a P to receive tree protection. – Revised as
requested
3. Add this plant note: – Revised as requested. Note # 12 was amended to include this language.
The soil in all landscape areas, including parkways and medians, shall be thoroughly loosened to a depth of not less than eight
(8) inches and soil amendment shall be thoroughly incorporated into the soil of all landscape areas to a depth of at least six (6)
inches by tilling, discing or other suitable method, at a rate of at least three (3) cubic yards of soil amendment per one thousand
(1,000) square feet of landscape area.
4. Add these notes to the Tree Mitigation Plan L-3. – Revised as requested
All tree removal shall be performed by a City of Fort Collins Licensed Arborist where required by code.
If any construction activity appears that it will impact any existing not identified for protection contact the City Forester to
determine what tree protection will be required.
5. The On-site meeting may still need to occur with a qualified tree transplanting contractor to determine feasibility of
transplanting trees and the recommended tree spade size to use. Please have the assistant City Forester Ralph Zentz
(221-6302) attend this meeting. Once tree spade size is determined by the qualified tree transplanting contractor the
column for tree spade size can be completed. – Meeting was held 7/19/12 w/Ralph & Dave Jordan. Sheet L-3
was revised 7/20/12 per comments from Ralph. Also, on 7/23/12 Dave Jordan expressed concern
w/transplanting 2 Crabs (#14 & #15) these are now proposed to be removed and have been replaced
with transplanting trees #12 & #19, as now shown on the plans and table.
6. Also review the proposed transplant tree irrigation plan and tree transplanting detail with the qualified tree
transplanting contractor at the on-site meeting and edit as necessary if this has not already been done. – Revised as
requested per comments from Ralph Z. following 7/19/12 meeting w/Dave Jordan.
7. On sheet L-3/tree mitigation plan add in parentheses after the heading Tree Protections Notes (applies to all trees
marked (P) to remain and be protected). – Revised as requested
8. For the tree planting details on L-2 remove the statement – paint all cuts over 1’ diameter. – Revised as requested
9. This is the current industry standard for wire basket removal that could be used for the tree planting details. –
Revised as requested
“Cut and remove the top 1/3 to 1/2 of the wire basket and burlap, and all the twine from before finishing backfilling.”
10. Utility tree separations are 10 feet for water and sewer mains and 6 feet for water and sewer services. Please change
plant note #2 to reflect this. – Revised as requested
11. Tree number 42 was recently identified as being impacted. It may be to be transplanted on the most current plans from
discussion with the LA. Be sure the current status of this tree is reflected on the plans. – Tree # 42 is proposed to
be removed & is indicated as such on the plans and table
