CHOICES
June 21, 1993
To Whom It May Concern:
We are CHOICES: an alternative educational and therapeutic program for youth
consisting of a management team, a board of directors, and consultants with interests and
experience in education, social work, counseling, parenting, community improvement and
business. We are collaborating with a wide base of local agencies that serve our target
population -- high -risk youth, 8-18 years of age. We believe that children identified as
at -risk will be unable to learn unless the issues that put them at risk are included in their
educational programming.
Our Goal is to develop a therapeuticleducational day -treatment program serving 8-18
year olds. Our objectives are:
1. To serve each individual's psycho -social, educational, and developmental needs
in a holistic approach. Healthy lifestyles, functional family relationships,
addictive behaviors, antisocial behaviors, victimizing and victimization are some
of the topics that would be integrated at developmentally appropriate levels with
interdisciplinary basic skills in an activity -based experiential model.
2. To implement an integrated educational and therapeutic model that reflects a
sense of family and individual responsibility. CHOICES staff and other paid
and volunteer advocates, senior citizens and college students will be enlisted to
serve as mentors to model appropriate behavioral skills. Peers who have
already demonstrated the resiliency to change their values and personal
environments will also be enlisted to serve as tutors, mentors, aides and role
models.
3. To create a culture that values and models diversity.
We will serve 10 youth at 1318 South College. The Fort Collins Planning
and Zoning Department will be contacting you soon to inform you of our request
for a site plan review. If you have any questions or would like to discuss this
project with us further, you may contact Galyn Carlile at 881-2588, Allen Miller
at 482-3839 or Lynette McClain at 491-8862 or at the above address.
