7. The City has planted and is currently irrigating the area
between the sidewalk and Shield Street. Tim Buchanan
indicated the City will continue to maintain this area since
it has already got a contract to maintain similar areas on the
east side of Shields as well as the large detention area
farther south. Tim emphasized that the grass in these areas
may be a slightly different color than the Low Maintenance Mix
that Bob is recommending for planting on the rest of the 6
acre site.
8. We discussed landscaping in the remaining court area between
existing Buildings A and C. Jerry Garretson believes there is
a well and a pump in .that area and will try to find
information on it for us.
9. Bob Hendrickson will require a 1" new water tap from Science
Area "E" to provide irrigation for that court area. The
existing irrigation lines that run under the opening between
existing Buildings "A" and "B" can be abandoned.
10. Tim Buchanan will provide for Bob Hendrickson and us lists of
plant material the City finds most appropriate for our
climate. This will help in determining the kinds of plant
material to be used along the front of the building and at the
main entry.
11. We discussed the use of trees and shrubs in most areas. Jerry
would prefer to stay with trees since shrubs get pretty well
beaten up by students.
12. At the main entrance shrubs may be appropriate. We discussed
the pros and cons of using some Aspen, rock and ground cover
as an appropriate symbol for Rocky Mountain High.
13. Ralph Zentz will complete redmarking the trees by Wednesday,
September 8th and RB+B should be able to readjust their
parking plan after that time.

Purpose: Landscaping and Irrigation Issues
1. Bob Hendrickson recommends using a Low Maintenance Mix in
place of the fescue grass that we show on the plans. He has
used this at the hospital with good success. It needs the
same amount of irrigation as fescue grass, but does not clump
as fescue grass does. Bob Hendrickson will provide
specifications for this mix.
2. Jerry Garretson asked if the 6 acres was going to be fenced.
Our plans do not call for fencing.
3. Will there be fencing around the private residence that
remains? Our plans do not call for fencing.
4. Discussed kids shortcutting and driving over grassed areas.
Jerry indicated that if we have a high curb around the parking
area he doesn't think this will be a problem. It hasn't been
in the existing parking lots.
5. Existing trees on 6 acre site: Ralph Zentz of the City will
mark with a red painted spot on the north side those trees
that should be removed. RB+B will re -look at parking layouts
on the basis of those trees that can be retained.
Once the parking plan is finalized Bob Hendrickson will take
that plan, complete a landscaping and irrigation plan.
6. If the trees to be retained can be identified, Jerry Garretson
can contract out to have them pruned and the rest of the trees
removed. This may provide a positive statement to the
neighbors that we are working to retain good existing
landscaping.
