neighborhoods through Public Service, City of Boulder, City of Vail and
other municipalities and suggest that one of the following smaller
streetlights be adopted by the City of Fort Collins for this project and
other similar high density single-family detached residential
neighborhoods.
I look forward to assisting you and the City in our efforts to promote
appropriate streetlight for this use. Thanks for your cooperation and
assistance.

RE: Indian Hills Village / Proposed New Streetlight Standard for High
Density Single-family Detached Home Neighborhoods
Dear Bruce:
The residential streetlight which presently is approved by Light and
Power for Indian Hills Village and similar projects is a high intensity
streetlight which is quite large and somewhat out of proportion to the
size of projects of this nature.
For example, Indian Hills Village has 49 single-family residences,
however, based on City of Fort Collins streetlight standard, only two or
three streetlights would be required. Because of the extreme care with
which right-of-ways, right-of-way landscaping, easements and easement
landscaping must be handled in neighborhoods such as this, two or three
relatively large streetlights are, really out -of -scale and non -satisfactory.
The challenge, I believe, is to designate a smaller streetlight which is
suitable for municipal use, durable and efficient to maintain, and then use
a larger number of these smaller streetlights in neighborhoods such as
Indian Hills Village where there are a large number of single-family
detached homes in a small area.
This avoids the out -of -scale and glare problems associated with two or
three large streetlights. Also, the light is distributed more aesthetically
and efficiently in the neighborhood.
I have researched municipal lights for dense, single-family residential
