Composite Section with Stabilized Subgrade • Surface Course Asphalt 3" 3" • Aggregate Base 4" 4" • Stabilized Subgrade 1211 1 12" Surface course asphalt for the roadways should be compatible with the City of Fort Collins standard specifications for SC-1 or SC-2 material. Aggregate base for the roadways should be compatible with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) recommendations for Class 5 or 6 aggregate base. Roadway subgrades should be prepared as outlined in our May report concerning this project. Consideration could be given to stabilization of the subgrades to reduce the potential for instability of the in -situ materials during construction. Alternative recommendations for a stabilized subgrade are provided above. We would be pleased to provide additional recommendations concerning stabilization of the pavement subgrades, if desired. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions concerning this report, or if we can be of further service to you in any other way, please do not hesitate to contact us. Fort Collins, Colorado EEC Project No. 1942016 Mr. Sherman: Our subsurface exploration report for the referenced project was submitted to your attention on May 13, 1994. In that report, we provided geotechnical recommendations for design and construction of foundations and support floor slabs and pavements for the proposed Falcon Ridge subdivision. At the time of our preparation of that report, estimates of traffic loadings for the subdivision roadways were not available. That information has recently become available and recommendations concerning section design of the development roadways are provided in this report. A Hveem stabilometer R-value of 8 was obtained in laboratory testing of the site soils. That R- value would correspond to a resilient modulus value of 5440 using American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) design correlations. Traffic loadings of 10 and 5 were provided by City of Fort Collins Engineering Department personnel for Spaulding Lane and all other development streets, respectively. The development streets, including Spaulding Lane, are designated as local roadways. The 1986 AASHTO "Guideline for Design of Pavement Structures" was used to help evaluate alternative pavement sections for those traffic loadings and outlined soil support conditions. Based on that evaluation, recommended alternative pavement sections are provided below. 2600 Canton Ct, Suite A Fort Collins, CO 80525 (303) 224-1522 FAX 224-4564
