SUBJECT: WOODLAND STATION
Park Planning and Development looked at this area at our staff
meeting on Sept. 28, 1994. Our thoughts on this area at this
time are that the community park shown on the 1988 Parks and
Recreation Master Plan may not be recommended in the 1994
update. Our discussion had the following items:
1. The amount of gravel mined area may make the available
land for active facilities very limited. The area is
more suited for open space and passive recreational
uses.
2. The planned neighborhood park (English Ranch) near Linton
School would serve the residents east of County Road #9.
The area east of County Road #9 will not have sufficient
residents to warrant their own park site.
3. The public access along the canal is important to obtain
since the canal may offer a good off-street connection
from Horsetooth Road to Harmony Road. Also, the possibility
of an underpass of Harmony Road may exist where the canal
crosses Harmony Road.
In summary: we do not see the advantage of any open space east of the
canal connecting to County Road #7 and the County's gravel mine area.
We are also, at this time, unable to provide any more "concrete" ideas
for this area. The Master Plan update will better address this area.
