intersections will operate acceptably. Calculation forms are
provided in Appendix B. Based upon these traffic volumes, the
existing two lane cross section of Lindenmeier Road will
accommodate the traffic efficiently and safely.
Figure 5 shows the long range future peak hour traffic
at the key intersections. Background traffic was increased
1.67 times the existing traffic following conversations with
Eric Bracke, Fort Collins Transportation Planner. It is
expected that this segment of Lindenmeier Road will carry
10,000 vehicles per day. This is roughly the equivalent to
an annual rate of increase of 2.5%. Table 4 shows the peak
hour operation at the key intersections. All of the key
intersections will operate acceptably. Calculation forms are
provided in Appendix C. It is recommended that the cross
section consist of one travel lane in each direction, a center
turn lane that can be striped for left turns at appropriate
public street intersections, and bike lanes on each side of
the street. This cross section can fit into a curb to curb
width of 50 feet. Parking should be prohibited along
Lindenmeier Road. There is adequate separation between the
access to Lindenmeier Estates and Forest Hills Drive to
accommodate the left -turning traffic at each street.
It is concluded that Lindenmeier Estates will not add
significant traffic to Lindenmeier Road, and operation at the
key intersections will be acceptable. The existing cross
section of Lindenmeier Road is adequate for the short range
traffic projections. The ultimate cross section of
Lindenmeier Road should consist of three lanes plus bike lanes
with no parking.

Lindenmeier Estates is a 12 lot subdivision plus an

existing house, located on the west side of Lindenmeier Road

(same as Lemay Avenue) approximately one mile north of Vine
Drive. The site location is shown in Figure 1. This traffic

study addresses the operation and geometrics related to this
residential development.
Lindenmeier Road, north of Willox Lane, is a north -south
street designated as a collector on the Fort Collins Master
Street Plan. It has a two lane cross section with 6-8 foot
shoulders. The posted speed is 35 mph. The 1991 daily
traffic was counted at 6000 vehicles. Given the land uses in
the area, most traffic is probably home -based trips. Peak
hour traffic was counted at nearby intersections in March 1994
and is shown in Figure 2. These intersections operate
acceptably as indicated in Table 1. Acceptable operation is
defined as level of service D or better. Calculation forms
are provided in Appendix A.
Lindenmeier Estates is a 12 lot plus one existing
