Thanks to an active neighbor- hood association, Golden Meadows sidents have had a say in the to of that last "meadow" — a lot firth of Harmony Road, south of onte Carlo Drive, east of heaton Drive and west of Mc- urray Avenue. Since 1994, members of the Aden Meadows Homeowners >sociation have been meeting ith Safeway to discuss the spe- ics of the supermarket's store to built on the site. "We feel proud that we've been de to show Fort Collins that ighbors can sit down with a de- loper and have a reasonable scussion," said Tim Dolan of the meowner's group. "Homeowners Isociations can have muscle. We n be a force to be reckoned with." By working with the developer id the city, Golden Meadows sidents were able to reach com- =ises on their major concerns regard to the 49,000-square- A store. The association's No. 1. consid- ation was how traffic to the ore would impact nearby Kruse lementary School. Traffic- itigation measures will be taken . the construction of the store id parking lot. Golden Meadows' success can be an example for other neighbor- hoods to follow,. said Tess Hef- fernan, neighborhood resource manager for the City of Fort Col- lins. "They (Golden Meadows resi- j dents) were really able to have an impact on development in their ----------------- ILI area," she said. "Now they can be a source of knowledge for other neighborhoods." Established about 17 years ago when homes were first being built in the area, the Golden Meadows Homeowner's Association is one of the city's oldest. There are about 475 families in the neighborhood, about half of which belong to the association. Dolan and his family moved into their home in Golden Mead- ows in 1989. At that time, there were open fields to the south of his home all the way to Harmony Road. Now the Dolans live in about the center of the neighbor- hood. "Well there's one good thing now that were totally developed — no more surprises," he said.
