RE: Hazardous Materials Impact Analysis — Carriage Auto Service Shop
Dear Ron Gonzales,
The following are the questions and answers requested for submittal:
1. What hazardous materials will you have and how much?
Motor oils and lubricants as well as common cleaning supplies for up keep and service to
facilities. Cleaning supplies in such minimal quantities and as contained in manufactures
retail containers. Motor oils are stored in above ground tanks in pit area of site.
Approximate total gallonage of highest capacity is 5,000 gallons. Typical tankage
consists of no one tank larger than 1500 gals with supplemental tanks ranging in size
from 120 gals to 75 gals.
2 What is the likelihood of an unexpected release and how much material would be lost
from beginning to end?
Likelihood of unexpected release is relatively low. Largest tank capacity is 1500 gallons
if tank was completely full which under most circumstances is not the case.
3 What is being done to prevent this from being a community risk?
Tanks are stored in an open area so that visual inspection can occur daily and any
abnormalities noted. Any discard would also be contained within a defined area without
migration off site. Site will have a Spill Prevention Control & Counter Measure Plan in
place to train and instruct employees and management. Spill Containment kits will be
located in strategic locations for use in unexpected releases as well as potential work
place accidents. Safety and response training and associated materials such as MSDS,
videos, and workbooks provided by suppliers and national franchise organization will
also be available to regularly instruct employees and management. An environmental
engineering firm will be utilized to maintain current standards and regulations.
