RE: August 15th Natural Resources Meeting
Thank you very much to all of you who were able to make the Natural Resources
committee meeting on August 15th at Tom Schumacher's office.
Your input was exceptionally thoughtful and will be very beneficial to myself and most
importantly to the City in understanding your interests and giving additional natural
resources space in this area the highest possible priority in terms of the City's Natural
Resource Open Space purchasing program.
I want to confirm my interest in developing aesthetically pleasing, low environmental
impact patio homes on this site and furthermore, my commitment not to build
apartments.
The tough balancing process which must be worked through to create a successful
result involves the balancing of the following three major elements, in addition of
course to numerous other elements:
A. How much natural resources space does the City want to purchase and what
will they pay for it.
B. What is my cost basis in the property not purchased by the City and is it
economically feasible to proceed with development of same.
C. Is there a purchase price reduction we can achieve from the seller of the
property by restructuring the sale of property in a fashion which creates valuable tax
benefits for him.
I will move this process forward as aggressively as possible as it is imperative that I
make a decision very quickly as to the economic viability of this project and whether I
will proceed with it or not. I will keep you informed about progress and anticipate we
will have a follow-up Natural Resources committee meeting in the near future. I trust
Tom Schumacher and Steve Olt will also keep informed and be available to respond
to any questions you may have.
