A 50,000-square-foot store is a standard size for Albertson's, said Kurt Prinslow, a Denver engineer who is working on the site plan for Albertson's. The Boise, Idaho -based com- pany has 39 stores in Colo- rado, including two in Fort Collins, at 3660 S. Mason St. and 731 S. Lemay Ave. The proposed store has been the subject of talk recently in the west -side neighborhood. "We had heard the rumor, but we hadn't known for cer- tain," said Emily Smith, an of- ficer for the Prospect -Shields Neighborhood Association. Smith said neighbors would be concerned about traffic and visual obstruction at the inter- section. "That's the only remaining view from an, intersection in the inner city that's straight to the mountains," Smith said. "That's been a concern of Vurs." Albertson's is the, nation's sixth -largest food retailer. In 1991, the company announced a five-year, $2.7 billion mod- ernization and expansion plan, during which it hopes to build 250 new stores. Plenty of interest Albertson's proposal for a new grocery store at Pros- pect Road and Shields Street is one of three mar- kets on the drawing board in Fart Collins. King Soopers is considering a new store on East Hannony Road be- tween Wheaton Drive and McMurray Avenue, and Toddy's is planning for a store at North College enue and Willox Lane.
