Internal components are totally enclosed in a rain - tight, dust -tight and corrosion resistant housing. The housing, back plate and door frame are die cast aluminum. A choice of three (3) optical systems is available. Luminaires are suitable for wet locations (damp locations if inverted). HOUSING: Single -piece soft trapezoidal housings are diecast aluminum. A memory retentive gasket seals the housing with the doorframe to exclude moisture, dust, insects and pollutants from the optical system. A black, die cast ribbed backplate dissipates heat for longer lamp and ballast life. DOOR FRAME: A single -piece die cast aluminum door frame integrates to the housing form. The door frame is hinged closed and secured to the housing with two (2) captive stainless steel fasteners. Studies show that our night vision is very sensitive to short wavelength light (blue and green light), resulting in crisp and clear vision, especially in our peripheral vision. Reaction time and color recognition under low light levels is far superior with white light sources like metal halide, fluorescent and induction lamps. Comment: Lighting — There are a couple of spot lighting levels shown on the Photometric Plan that exceed the allowable maximum of 10 foot candles. Also, the lighting levels on the exit drive, near the street, appear to be too high. Please see the redlined Photometric Plan that is enclosed with this comment letter. Are all the lights down directional and shielded to prevent glare and light spillage? It is difficult to tell from the plans. See Sections 3.2.4 (D) (7) & (8) of the Land Use Code (LUC). Response: The location of the recessed step lighting fixtures, Type B1, has been adjusted to reduce the lighting level to below 10 foot candles. The lighting levels on the exit drive do include an assumed contribution from the existing street light. The photometric plan has been revised and divided into two sections to show foot candle levels with and without street lighting contribution. The lighting fixtures are down directional and shielded, as required in Section 3.2.4 (D) (3), to prevent glare and light spillage as indicated in the cut sheets on sheet E0.2. However, it may have been hard to discern due to the quality of the print submitted. Individual cut sheets will be submitted with the revised plans. 54.
