Re: Proposal for Openhole Observation
626 South Whitcomb Street — Duplex Addition
Fort Collins, Colorado
Mr. Anderson
Thank you for the opportunity to submit this proposal to provide openhole observation
services for the referenced project. To complete an openhole observation, Soilogic Inc.
(Soilogic) personnel would advance two (2) hand auger borings to a depth of
approximately 3 feet below proposed basement foundation bearing elevation or to auger
refusal, whichever results in the lesser excavation depth. Dynamic cone penetrometer
tests would be completed on the exposed subgrade soils to help evaluate the consistency
or relative density of the foundation bearing materials. Swell/consolidations tests would
be completed on selected soil samples obtained from the open excavation to evaluate soil
volume change potential with variation in moisture content.
After completing the outlined field evaluation and laboratory testing, Soilogic would
prepare a written report summarizing the results of the completed field and laboratory
testing. Verification of the allowable soil bearing pressure used in design of the footing
foundations would also be completed. Soilogic would provide the scope of service
outlined above for a lump sum fee of $500.
We look forward to the opportunity to work with you on this project. Our Standard
Terms and Conditions for providing the outlined services are attached and considered
part of this proposal. If you have any questions concerning the included information or if
we can be of further assistance to you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Very truly yours,
Soilogic, In .

Soils Report:
Having extension experience in the West Side neighborhood, our intent is to verify the soils at the time
of excavation for the garden level duplex addition. The West Side neighborhood has consistently
demonstrated brown to reddish brown lean clay with varying amounts of silt and sand.
Table R401.4.1 of the International Residential Code provides a Load -Bearing Pressure for lean clay with
varying amounts of silt and sand. We propose to use the bearing pressure identified in the Table
R401.4.1 with a minimum dead load of 500 psf for the possibility of low to moderate swell.
We will have the geotechnical firm, Soilogic, perform an open hole observation upon the completion of
the lower level excavation. The results of Soilogic's completed field and laboratory testing will be
followed for the final foundation design of footing, pads and foundation wall design.
