RE: Rigden Farm, 8th Filing — Variance Request to Reduce the Redirect Taper at the Proposed
Widening of Drake Road into the Existing Roadway.
Dear Carter,
This letter is in response to the variance request received regarding the taper to be used to tie in
the proposed widening into the existing pavement on Drake Road at the proposed left turn lane.
In accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and the Larimer County
Urban Area Street Standards (LCUASS) figure 8-3 the length of a redirect taper for a speed of 45
mph or greater is equal to the width of the offset multiplied by the speed. The applicant had been
asked to provide a 40:1 taper.
The variance to reduce this taper length is denied. Adequate justification for this variance has
not been provided.
If you have any questions, please contact Sheri Wamhoff at 221-6750.
Sincerely,
Sheri Wamhoff, PE
