HomeMy WebLinkAboutMARTINEZ PUD - PRELIMINARY - 4-97 - CORRESPONDENCE - TREE MANAGEMENT PLANdesirable trees which will be affected by the development activities. Where possible,
these trees will be moved by the Parks Department to be used by the Department in
various locations throughout existing City parks. The only limitation will be the
availability of a tree spade large enough to remove and move the larger spruce trees. The
trees which most likely can be moved are also shown on the attached plan.
Removal of Undesirable Species
In addition to those trees which will be moved and which must be removed for project
development, all trees determined to be undesirable on account of species or condition,
will be removed from site. These include existing Siberian Elms and several other trees.
The Developer will schedule an inspection will the City Forester prior to development for
final determination of such trees.

Tree Management Plan
April 28, 1997
Overview
The Martinez P.U.D. consists of approximately 11 acres on the south edge of
the Lee Martinez Park. Currently the park straddles a portion of the property
where the City has a park easement on the property. At the time the park was
developed and over the past 5-10 years, numerous trees have been planted in
this easement area. The Developer has agreed to dedicate a portion of the site
to the City as shown on the Preliminary Site Plan and the City has agreed to
vacate a portion of the Park easement on the far Northwest portion of the site.
Approach to Preservation
jjT,,Se11D
A tree survey was performed by Jim Sell Design Inc. to identify and locate the existing
trees on the site. These trees are identified on the enclosed drawing and labeled as to
remain, be relocated, or removed.
It is the intent of the planners and Developer to preserve as many mature trees as possible
by either designing around the existing trees where possible or by relocating trees which
are moveable by a tree spade.
Where removal of desirable trees is not made mandatory due to street locations or
building construction requirements, a concerted effort will be made by the Developer
towards the preservation of those trees. The efforts in this regard will include careful
grading design and protection during construction operations. During the construction
phase, the Developer will follow a tree preservation plan which will include a pre -
construction briefing will the City Forester and contractors. This plan will include
requiring the placement of fencing and signage around all trees to deter careless or
otherwise incidental damage to any tree.
Movement of Trees
Where possible, the Developer will work will the City Forester to determine which of the
trees that must be removed are moveable. These trees will be relocated on the site if
possible or as a buffer between the development any the existing baseball fields in
Martinez Park.
Trees which are currently in the Park land easement are owned by the City. The Parks,
Department has meet with the City Forester to discuss the possibility of moving tlir^oino 805
