DMA Plaza has been contacted by SBA, Inc., a wireless communications consultant, on
behalf of Sprint telecommunications. Sprint has been looking at telecommunication
sites in the Ft. Collins area and has proposed to lease roof space at the DMA for a
customized wireless communication service system. They propose to install flush
(surface) mounted antennas (see attached photo example) and base equipment on the
roof surface. After consultation with the U.S. Dept- of Housing & Urban Development
(HUD) and our Board of Directors, approval has been given to move forward on these
negotiations which is contingent upon Sprint obtaining and meeting all the rules &
regulations of the City of Ft. Collins regarding this proposal. That is why we now have a
sign from the City on our west lawn that reads "Development Proposal Under Review for
This Property'.
The DMA Plaza Board of Directors & HUD have reviewed in great detail the lease
agreement between Sprint and DMA. The roof top equipment will be quiet, clean,
smoke -free and safe. It will not interfere with either television or telephone reception.
Since the equipment does not require anyone from Sprint to be on site, it will not create
additional activity or traffic. Also, the flush mounted antennas will be painted to match
the building and the base stations will be enclosed with a screen that matches the
existing walls on the roof's elevator penthouse.
The greatest benefit of this agreement is the additional cash flow which will allow myself
and our Board of Directors to continue to improve our building for the future and offset
our preventive/daily maintenance work. Another plus is that this same cash flow could
postpone possible rent increases. This agreement and its benefits will have a positive
influence for us. Let's hope no complications arise during Sprint's approval process.
If you have any questions/concerns, please do not hesitate to call me at the DMA Office
(493-7727).
