Subject: RE: Question about Sunshine House trees
Hi Clay,
Thanks for checking in on this.
The existing parkway along Centre is quite narrow and is a sub -standard width. It was built under an old standard. For
projects that have a narrow parkway we have recently asked that an acceptable ornamental tree such as Chanticleer
Pear be used in place of a canopy shade tree. This applies only to narrow sub -width parkways and is intended to help
reduce the impact to the hardscape while still providing for a street tree.
An alternative is to have the canopy shade trees placed behind the walk, but in this case for various reasons we went
with the ornamental tree in the parkway.
I'm ok with the continued use of Chanticleer Pear in this row.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks
Tim

Subject: Question about Sunshine House trees
Hi Tim,
I have a random question about a development and the trees we allowed them to provide along Centre Ave. For the
Sunshine House development, we approved the use of an ornamental tree (Chanticleer Pear) along Centre Ave to
function as their street tree (see attached). I know we usually require a canopy tree of some sort for street trees. I am
curious as to the rationale for allowing that as we have the lot immediately to the south in for review right now and they
are proposing Chanticleer Pear trees as the street tree along Centre as well. I wanted to make sure we are OK with that
tree along Centre or if we would prefer to get some canopy trees there instead.
Thanks,
Clay
