CURRENT PLANNING
In regard to the proposed project "Elizabeth Street Apartments PDP — Type II (LUC) —
File Number 8-01" I was out of town and unable to attend the scheduled meeting on June
7, so am responding through this letter. I understand that the area in question has
generally been determined to be zoned for high -density dwellings, so am not surprised by
the proposal nor particularly concerned about this type of project. However, I do wish to
attract attention to the fact that the proposal will inevitably increase traffic on Elizabeth
Street and other streets in the neighborhood. The topic of traffic was touched upon in a
series of meetings hosted by the city in regard to the future of Campus West and its
shops. Those meetings took place in 1999 and 2000, but I have not heard if any
determination has been made. If Campus West were upgraded and made more attractive,
as city planners suggest, I believe that it would attract people in the neighborhood rather
than forcing them to use their automobiles to drive elsewhere for dining and shopping.
Therefore, as more and more high -density projects are approved for this neighborhood, I
hope that improvements to Campus West will encourage individuals living in the
neighborhood to travel by foot or bicycle to Campus West whenever possible, making the
whole neighborhood more attractive and livable, as opposed to a place that sees heavy
traffic coming and going constantly. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Doug Ernest
