Subject: Hazardous Materials Impact Analysis
The following is a description of materials merchandised for retail sales at Drake Ace
Hardware. This document is intended to comply with the City of Fort Collins -Fire
Department requirement for a Hazardous Materials Impact Analysis study.
Per our submittal package we are planning to construct a 10,000 square foot facility at the
southwest corner of Shields and Evenstar. This facility will be sprinklered according to
City -Fire Department regulations. All products are in consumer size packages, not greater
than 5 gallon containers. All products are shipped in the manufacture's cardboard
container except for the 5 gallon containers which are bulk. We dispense no bulk products
in liquid form. The likelyhood of a release is extremely low both outside and inside.
The following is a fist of products sold by our store:
Latex paint, alkyd paint, drywall mud, linseed based exterior stain, spray paints, lighter
fluid, Coleman fuel, caulking, paint solvents, strippers, muriatic acid, carpet cleaning
chemicals, roof coatings, plastic pipe adhesive, drain cleaners, lawn and garden chemicals,
automotive oils and sundries, small engine oils, propane torch bottles and fertilizer.
These products are currently unloaded by hand/dolly and could, in the future, be shipped
on a pallatized/cardboard box container off loaded by a forklift.
In the event of a spill we access the situation and if warranted call 911. All employees
view an Ace Hardware safety tape and know that we have sand bags for containment.
The MSDS sheets and fire department are consulted for disposal. We store the more
volital products on lower shelving to minimize the any fall distance. Again, we have
minimal instances but are aware of containing the situations.
We have planned a bulk propane tank installed in accordance with local codes and
installation regulations. This installation includes crash posts and an intrinsically safe
electrical supply.
