Scott is the construction manager for Wheeler Development for this project. He has some sensitivity to preservation, having previously worked on the Old Power Plant and the Old Fort Collins High School projects. He understands the historic preservation concerns, but of course is representing the developer and wants to see the value of the land maximized. They proposed moving the farmhouse and tearing down the remaining farm outbuildings; we suggested that the buildings really need to stay in place, and would like to see plans for development that could utilize the buildings and the land within and around them. Suggestions were: flipping the proposed commercial and office areas along Timberline, so that the farm would fall within the proposed office development and could be developed as a part of a larger office complex; another was to position the neighborhood center to incorporate the farmstead. One of their comments was that they would like the City to draw up illustrative or conceptual plans showing how the buildings could be utilized - they.obviously have heard about the Preston Farm. I told them that we didn't normally do that, and referred them to Greg. A side concern raised by both sides is the future configuration of Timberline Road, and the impact on the development and on the historic structures. The meeting was amicable, and I believe we will ultimately see a quality development that will incorporate the historic structures. - Karen
