Subject: Re: Rigden Farm at Timberline and Drake oads
Date: June 10, 1998
As we have discussed, the development proposed for the Rigden Farm at Timberline and
Drake Roads.may impact several important historic structures, specifically those
associated with the Wesley Johnson Farm at 2608 East Drake Road, and the Henry Jessup
(Cal Johnson) Farm at 2600 Timberline Road. These farm complexes have been
determined to be eligible for designation on the National Register of Historic Places
under criteria A, B, and C, and as Fort Collins Local Landmarks, for their historical,
architectural and geographical significance to Fort Collins. Because the farms are eligible
for designation, full compliance with the demolition review process would be required
prior to any demolition.
One additional farm complex, the Joseph Jessup Farm at 1908 South Timberline Road,
has also been determined to be eligible for designation. While the proposed development
may not directly involve this property, this farm is linked with the other two by their
closed geographical proximity, shared associations with the Johnson family, and by their
high degree of historic integrity. The three farms have been determined to be eligible for
designation as a National Register and/or Local Landmark district, and the indirect
impacts of the proposed development on the Joseph Jessup farm should be considered
during the planning and development review processes.
I have attached the survey forms for all three farm properties, as well as pertinent portions
of the 1994 Agricultural Survey Report. Please let me know if I can provide additional
information or be of further assistance. Staff and the Landmark Preservation
Commission will be happy to work with the applicants to ensure a successful project with
few, if any, delays.
