Re: Review of Proposed Alterations to Smokestack, 1133 Riverside Avenue
Dear Mr. Butler:
As you are aware, your proposal to add wireless telecommunication equipment to the smokestack
at 1133 Riverside Avenue was recently reviewed under Section 14 of the Fort Collins Code, the
Historic Preservation Demolition/Alteration Review process. After consultation with the Chair of
the Landmark Preservation Commission and with Historic Preservation staff, the Director of
Advance Planning has determined that the proposed alterations will not negatively impact the
smokestack's eligibility for designation as a Fort Collins Landmark. Therefore, the proposed work
can occur without further historic preservation review.
The approved alterations consist of the addition of six panel antennas, which are to be mounted into
the mortar, or grout, between the bricks. These will be painted to closely match the bricks. The
proposed cable tray will also be mounted in such a manner as to not impact the brick, be painted to
match, and, if possible, will be shared with Cricket's telecommunication equipment. Finally, the
equipment is to be located inside the building, and will therefore have no impact on the building's
structural integrity or appearance.
A copy of these review comments has been sent to Bob Barkeen, City Planner. Please let me know
if you have any questions about these comments, or if I can be of further assistance. I can be reached
at 224-6078.
