Approx. June of this year, Tom Demint with PFA, representatives from Turning Point, RB&B Architects,
and myself met on site to review the building and proposed changes that Turning Point was considering.
The purpose of this meeting was to identify building code issues. Turning Points proposal was to create
the administrative offices on the third floor, residential on the second floor, classroom and rec rooms on
the first floor and basement. It was discussed and clearly understood, that the third floor office use
( B Occupancy) constituted a "Change of Occupancy" on that floor (the previous use being residential R-1
Occupancy) and as such would require code compliance by, the installation of fire sprinkler system,
accessibility by elevator, rating of stairwells and exiting. It was clearly understood, at this meeting, that by
creating the offices on the upper floor these code requirements apply, When asked why the proposal to
create the offices on the third floor, the reply was this is what Turning Point wants. Further discussion on
requirements for restrooms as it relates to restroom accessibility. I stated, any alterations to existing
restrooms or creation of new restrooms required that the restroom comply with ANSI A117.1 1992
accessibility.
Plans were submitted for building alterations of 801 S shields on 9/24/99. The plans are missing
mechanical, electrical, plumbing drawings,(these drawings were to be designed builds by the tradesmen
and were forth coming) The plans that were submitted included all items that were discussed, as.
discussed. No additional requirements have been asked for, or have changes been made to the
submitted drawings other than minor code corrections
