Re: Your Letter to Mayor Ray Martinez Dated May 25, 2000
Dear Ms. Humstone and Board Members:
Thank you for the letter explaining your desire to be informed of all meetings concerning
proposed and future development in the Downtown River Corridor. You have been
added to the distribution list for notification about conceptual review of development
proposals and relevant City board meetings. Any development application submitted to
the City is a matter of public record, so you can review applications and submit
comments to the planner in charge. Although any member of the public is invited to sit
in on the conceptual review meeting, you will not be allowed to participate. Also, I
encourage you to talk to your Advisory Board liaison, Karen McWilliams, on an on-
going basis to identify projects that may be of interest to you. I've reminded
development review staff to inform Karen directly of any potential projects in this area.
It may be useful for you to contact Bill Neal and Bill Sears, who are both discussing
possibilities for private development near the Poudre River. They have discussed ideas
with the City, but have not reached the stage of actually submitting development plans to
the City for review. If you have specific concerns about the potential project on the Sears
Trostel site, please contact Ron Fuchs, City Planner (221-6750), who is the planner
assigned to coordinate the conceptual review.
As you know, the City Council recently approved the Downtown River Corridor
Implementation Program. The Program contains nineteen projects, dealing with the
enhancement of natural resources, addition of recreational opportunities, interpretation of
history and culture, management of floodplains, and other elements. A multi -disciplinary
team will be created to implement projects. We will have strong, on -going involvement
by our historic resources staff, so they should be able to pass information along to you
and invite your participation. We will continue to provide numerous opportunities to
discuss specific design of the projects with the public. I have directed the project
