RE: Proposed wireless telecommunications equipment at Sportsman's Storage, 1005 E. Laurel St.
To Whom It May Concern:
Nextel has leased space from Tom and Karen Weitkunat / Sportsman's Storage upon which to locate wireless
telecommunications equipment. Nextel proposes to locate its antennas on a tower that will be located on the City's
property directly north of the Weitkunat's. In Article 4, Division 4.8. Section B(3).(d)I the location of Wireless
Telecommunication Equipment is permitted, subject to Planning and Zoning Board review. The Nextel ground
mounted equipment building will be constructed attached the existing storage facility at the north end of the
Sportsman's Storage and will be consistent with the existing use of the property. Nextel will comply with all design,
landscaping criteria and conditions of approval. Nextel will work with the city of Fort Collins to ensure that the
design of the proposed project is consistent with the surrounding area.
Nextel has been authorized by the Federal Communications Commission to construct and operate the first multi-
purpose enhanced specialized mobile radio system (ESMR) in the United States. The proposed facility would be an
integral part of the system design for the area. Once constructed, the facility will be unmanned, with no noise, smoke,
odors or waste generated.
Nextel's unique truly digital system, which provides service to local businesses as well as the general public, is an
excellent alternative to regular cellular telephones. Nextel's service provides superior voice quality, no cloning, no
roaming charges anywhere in the country and the option to use telephone service, radio dispatch, alphanumeric paging
and voicemail from the same handset.
