College Avenue Fort Collins, CO 80522 Dear Ted Enclosed is our submittal of Poudre School District's 2002 Elementary School for Site Plan Advisory Review. The school is located on Kechter Road, east of County Road Nine (also known as the Staley Site). Poudre School District is proposing a 63,000 square foot prototype, high-performance school. The emphasis on the design has been sustainability, in keeping with the District's commitment "... to be responsible stewards of our natural resources and to allow public education to provide leadership in developing an ethic of sustainability in all practices." The exterior of the building will be masonry block and brick, as well as shingles made from recycled rubber / gasket material. The shingles have the appearance of slate tiles. The screen wall around the trash enclosure will be 6 feet high with opaque fencing and gates. The building and site are divided into the "passive" and "active" sides, where classrooms look out on the quiet, non - playground side of the building. More active spaces (cafeteria, gym, etc,) are located next to the side of the building with playgrounds and courts. Overall impact to the site will be kept to a minimum. Asphalt paving at the playgrounds does not encircle the building, as is typical of most schools. Instead, it is located only on the south side of the building and is held away from the structure wherever possible. This will not only reduce the heat -sink effect and therefore the heat load on the building, but will minimize the amount of impervious surface on the site. This school site will be located adjacent a future City Park. An irrigation pond will be built south of the creek, designed to serve both sites. Paddng lot runoff will be directed to bio-swales and into a water quality pond. All site improvements are held outside the 50-foot setback from the creek. RB+B and Poudre School District would like to thank the City of Fort Collins for your participation in what has been a truly integrated design process. Planning, Light & Power, Utilities, Parks & Recreation, Engineering, and Natural Resources, to name a few, have played an active part and provided valuable input in this exciting facility. This project is scheduled to begin bidding on April 2nd, with construction to begin May 1"
