As a property owner at 109 Coronado Court, I am concerned about the impact of these
projects at the traffic light on the comer of Cameron Drive and College Avenue.
In early April, someone posted a new speed limit sign on College Avenue just south of
the Spradley Barr property that increased the speed limit on College Avenue to 55 mph
going south. Since that time mayhem has developed at the comer of Fossil Creek,
Cameron Drive, and College Avenue. The red light at College Avenue is regularly not
observed. Major traffic accidents take place at least once a month. I would urge current
planning to obtain and review accident reports at this intersection before approving
further development in the area.
With project #26-01 having the potential to add many daily vehicle trips to the area, I
would urge the City to reduce the College speed limit to 40 mph until south of the
intersection, to provide an upgraded traffic control system at Cameron and College as a
expense to the developer of Redtail, and to provide additional enforcement of the existing
traffic light system at Cameron and College. The Redtail development should also be
required to extend the frontage road along its northeastern boundary.
Also, at Cameron and College, a frontage road system exists. Unfortunately, the traffic
markings here leave lots to be desired. Motorists regularly enter the frontage intersection
and block the existing turn patterns. More traffic in the area will only exacerbate this
problem. More signage is not the answer. Unless adequate planning is done, this
intersection will soon replicate the western comer of Swallow and College.
