Question:
I would like to express my concerns related to the city planner, Steve Olt,
who is overseeing the development located at approximately 1100 Bennett
Road. At a neighborhood meeting to review the preliminary plan, Mr. Olt took
notes on a flip chart and wrote down 55 items brought forward by those in
attendance. Near the end of that meeting Mr. Olt stated that the 55 items
would be typed up and sent out to everyone on the attendance list. It is now
almost 2 months since that neighborhood meeting and no minutes have been
sent to me via e-mail or U.S. mail. I feel that follow through on a statement like
this should be completed in a timely manner.
I was also disappointed in Mr. Olt's responses to questions regarding references
to this property in the City Plan. My understanding is that a city planner is to try
to remain impartial in reviewing development plans in order to best represent the
needs and wants of the citizens they serve, Mr. Olt's comments and responses
at the neighborhood meeting appeared very much in favor of the developer and
he had even gone so far as to mark spots in the city plan document in advance to
respond to attendee's concerns and statements. Is that the appropriate role for the
city planner?
I understand that there will be a second neighborhood meeting on the now official
development plan and I am anxiously awaiting notification of that meeting, I hope
to receive the minutes from the first meeting before the second one occurs.
