Date: Tue, Jul 31, 2001 5:10 PM Subject: Re: neighborhood meeting - Bennett Road residential project This brings another comment to mind. During conceptual review the developer made a request that perhaps we could explore extending the diagonal parking on the south side of Bennett to the west. I thought this was a good idea, but the developer should be responsible for the improvements. Steve, was this issue discussed during the meeting with the school? I still think we need to involve all parties in a discussion prior to the neighborhood meeting so staff and the school district are all on the same card. Tom R. >>> Kathleen Reavis 07/31 4:06 PM >>> I have had prior meetings with the school and they were trying to provide more on -street parking on the southside of the street (to minimize the ped xings). However, in order to do this they would have to widen the street on their side and this impacted the playground. Would it be possible with this new development to widen the street on the north side and free up some width on the south side for more parking? Just a thought. Please include Tom and/or me in future meetings for this site - we have been contacted by the City Manager's office to keep a close eye on this project - it seems to have Councilmember interest as well. Thanks. KR >>> Eric Bracke 07/31 3:47 PM >>> It is not likely that Bennett Road will become a one-way street. One-way streets need to be provided in pairs. Making Bennett a one-way street will push half of the traffic on Bennett over to Springfield. I am sure the residents of Springfield will not be happy with that alternative. Eric >>> Steve Olt 07/31 3:36 PM >>> Tom, I attended an informal meeting in front of Bennett School last Thursday morning with the school principal, Sue Reid, and the developers. We talked for about an hour as we overlooked the property across the street. The developers arranged this meeting. Sue is very excited about and supportive of a single family development on this property (versus some obvious options); however, she has concerns about the potential loss of on -street parking and children's safety around and crossing the street. She would like to see Bennett Road become a one-way street. She will be at the neighborhood meeting, probably in support of the project. Steve >>> Tom Reiff 07/31 1:17 PM >>> Steve, I plan on attending this neighborhood meeting, but I also thought we were going to set up a separate meeting with the city, school district, Bennett principal, and the developer prior to the neighborhood meeting. Is this meeting still going to take place? Tom Reiff
