RE: New 2004 High School
This letter is to serve as Park Planning and Developments comments on the Poudre School
District coordination with the City on this joint school/park site.
We are very pleased with the District's involvement of City Departments with the development
of the design for the new school and future community park. Park Planning and Development
has been consulted from the beginning of this project, including the purchase of the property.
The District has included Park Planning and Development staff at numerous meetings with
their design team. A one -day charette was held with District staff, consultants and City staff to
preliminarily design the entire 150-acre site. City participates included staff from Recreation,
Natural Resource, Traffic, Engineering, Stormwater and planning. This open discussion and
sharing of information has resulted in a design for the school and the park that will provide
maximum benefit to the community. The joint sharing of facilities will result in reduced
development and future maintenance costs. Facilities are designed to meet City and District
standards and allow for the most flexibility of use.
The development of a conceptual design for the park has allowed the school design to include a
discussion on view corridors, and school aesthetics matching those of the park site. This level
of detail is an example where we have been able to accomplish more than .on other joint
school/park sites. Sidewalks, open play areas, ball fields and courts have been jointly placed
to work for the school and the park.
In summary, I am very pleased with the effort and involvement with the School District on the
new high school design. Our over-all community park needs are well met by the current
design. This design process has the level of cooperation I would expect to have on future joint
school/city projects.
