It has come to my attention that there is a possibility of having a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in the adjoining building. Though I am a firm believer in rehabilitation services and know that people with challenges in their life need a place to go and heal, this is not the appropriate location for those services. My husband and I strongly oppose this action. The safety of the children and staff of Hope must be the priority. Addiction does not equate to the individual being a bad person or a criminal. It does however increase the risk to our children. I have provided information regarding the statistics of alcohol/drug related crimes against children and that of parental use of substances. Though these individuals are not the parents of the children at Hope, I believe this still highlights the risk the city would put the children under by allowing this facility to operate in the building. Please do not allow this facility to operate in the building or near this or any other school or day care. It truly does take a village to raise a child, as the leaders of this city, you have a responsibility to your children as well as ours.
