Considering the situation, both Ted and I feel the meeting went well. I explained the floodplain mapping and the regulation to them. Most of the meeting was spent discussing the variance process and some of the avenues that they can pursue. They will probably plan on going to the Water Board at the January meeting. Here is a summary of some of the things we discussed related to the variance. 1. They will get some detailed survey done of the building including the finished floor elevation to determine how much water they have going into the building. The flood elevation is 4965.7. 2. They will start to put together an emergency evacuation plan that they can present as part of the variance. One component may be to receive notification from our upstream streamflow gage. I suggested that they may be able to purchase software from DIAD to allow for them to set their own alarms and send pages to their staff. That would eliminate the City from being responsible for notification. 3. They may be able to distinguish themselves from other schools because of their low teacher to student ratio which may make evacuation easier. 4. Argue hardship and greater community good. They will probably have several people come to speak in support of their request. They were going to try to get the survey information quickly to get a better measure of risk. As soon as I hear anything on that, I will let everyone know. Please let me know if you have any questions. Marsha P.S. I did not bring up the Dry Creek Diversion Project because of the uncertainties about the project at this time. CC: Carrie M. Daggett; Susan Hayes; Ted Shepard
