Alternative compliance Request Number two: The code allows street trees to be used toward meeting the full tree stocking requirement as long as they are within 50 feet of the building. 3.2.1(D)(1). Trees required in subparagraphs (a) or (b) above may be used to contribute to this standard. Existing trees may be used to meet the standards of the section. 3.2.1(F). Existing significant trees within the LOD and within natural area buffer zones shall be preserved to the extent reasonably feasible and may help satisfy the landscaping requirements of this section as set forth above. A street tree is required every 40 feet. The section of frontage along Canyon from the east curb cut edge to the corner is 160 feet. Only three existing trees are in this area so one more tree is needed. The applicant will need to, either keep the existing Hackberry near the corner of Howes and Canyon (and not relocate it), or add an additional street tree in this section. Alternative compliance request number three: The planters for annual flowers between the building and curb should provide an equivalent landscape effect to foundation plantings.
