Box 580 Fort Collins, Colorado 80522-0580 Dear Mr. Barkeen: RE: Beaucaire Residential Treatment Center Expansion Project The Beaucaire Residential Treatment Center for soon -to -be -released criminals in Martinez Neighborhood is inappropriate. Construction of residences around Martinez Park and near to downtown should bring daytime and after-hours safety to the downtown are park area. We are not unaware that transients do sleep in the park and under bridges and come in on freight trains which pass very close to our neighborhood. For this reason, our City officials need to hear of our concerns and not allow this expansion to occur. In fact, the City should be actively finding a more appropriate place for this facility if it is needed. I'm aware that Beaucaire is a business profiting from temporary housing of individuals who are to supposed to be prepared for release by the existing jail system. In fact, it should not be necessary at all, let alone allowed in a long-time, historical residential area. I walk in Martinez Park on the bike -walking path, along with many other single citizens, and there are times during the day and night when I am uncomfortable being alone getting my exercise. I find it totally inappropriate for the City to be developing a park for children while allowing staging dangerous individuals nearby. The enclosed copy of a letter from my neighbor, Ken Smith, expands on our concerns. Yet I do not feel that we are being heard. Sincerely, Dolores L.
