The School allowed students who wicht not otherwise be able to complete hic-h school course work and receive a high school diploma to work part-time and complete graduation reauir-=.,ents t^rcuch a work-study program. At that time there were 5 teachers working with about 8:, students, and they had 'hoped to graduate 13 seniors. The school is architecturally important. Two earlier schools named Harmony had served the school district, the second of which had been in this same location. The school district, which extended from one-half mile north of Horsetooth road on the north to Fossil Creek on the south and from County Road 9 to College Avenue, served the educational needs of Local farm families. The school year was structured around the farm schedule, with a fall vacation at beet harvest time. The school had four classrooms as well as a full basement with a gymnasium and kitchen. A teacherage was built east of the school grounds. The school, built in 1931, represents Depression era construction in Fort Collins and is one of the few public buildings constructed in the area during the 1930s. The school is also one of the few buildings in Fort Collins representing the Art Deco style, as evidenced in the central tower, narrow vertical window bands and sidelights, terra cotta with floral geometric motif, decorative brickwork, and ribbons of windows. Central, projecting entrance bay has engaged brick pilasters with terra cotta capitals with geometric floral design. Central, double door entrance flanked by very narrow vertical sidelights. Three, narrow, multi -tight vertical windows on upper story flanked by etched glass sidelights with Art Deco geometric design. Entrance bay features decorative brickwork and aluminum Letters reading "Harmony School 1931 Dist No 17." Wings flanking entrance bay have engaged brick pilasters with terra cotts capitals flanking bands of windows. Lower story windows are four- •ver-one light triple windows with shared brick sill. Upper story windows are .laced in ribbons of five, with shared brick sills. Band of decorative brick corbelling above uooer windows. Brick foundation.
