The applicants are planning to turn their home at 1024 W. Mulberry
into The Diane Louise Johnson Cultural Center. It is a memorial
for their daughter who died in a plane crash in 1985. The purpose
is to provide the citizens of Fort Collins with a meeting place.
They hope it can be used for tutoring students, a place to study,
as well as a meeting place for a variety of groups. It will be
free of charge and open to the public. It will provide for handi-
capped citizens. It will prohibit the use of alchol, drugs and
smoking. Kitchen facilities will be available. The property is
zoned low density.
THE DIANE LOUIE JOHNSON CULTURAL CENTER - A PLACE OF ASSEMBLY
We have taken our home at 1024 W. Mulberry and refurbished the
interrior rooms to allow Fort Collins citizens to use it for
small gatherings. It will be open to groups free of charge by
calling and making an appointment or reservation using our
phone number. They may not use drugs, alchohol or smoke on the
primises. The kitchen may be used to have coffee and to serve
the food which the group has purchased and brought to the
cultural center. Group size will be no larger than 12 people.
The exterrior of the home is and will remain as it hs been in
appearance since it was built and landscaped in 1940. Only a
small plaque near the front door will designate the building
as The Diane Louise Johnson Cultural Center, a memorial to our
daughter who was killed in a Delta Airlines plane crash on
August 2, 1985 at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.
We fully intend to preserve the character of the area and
neighborhood and will do everything possible to protect all
who live in the area from any disturbances.
We began working on the property in September of 2001 clearing
overgrown areas of un wanted trees and shrubery which has been
neglected over the years by renters. We planted grass to fill
in these areas. We not only refurbished the house but we have
remodeled the carriage house on the same lot to be our home.
We therefore will be able to supervise and control the activities
at the cultural center.
We have a property manager who will assist and take over when
we need help. We also have a board of directors (19) which
include our children, their spouses and our 4 grandchildren.
as well as 9 members from the community.
The property is: in the process of being designated as a local
Historic Landmark.
