»Rosita,
>>Your 300 Smith Street, Old Town Commons - PDP was briefly discussed
>at
>>the Planning & Zoning Board work session this afternoon (Friday,
>2/11)
>>and only one concern was expressed by the Board. There are about 13
>>existing trees shown on the Landscape Plan for the property that are
>>proposed to be removed and, based on my personal inspection of the
>>property last week, 6 of those have already been eliminated (cut
>down).
>>They were the 6 trees on East Olive Street right behind the street
>curb.
>>There are 2 evergreen trees and 7 deciduous trees shown on the
>Landscape
>>Plan (to the west and north of the existing house) yet to be removed.
>>The Board did have some concern about the removal of these trees.
>>I would like to meet you at the property early next week to look at
>the
>>tree situation and take a couple of photos. The Board would like to
>keep
>>your item on the consent agenda but wants some response from me,
>>regarding the trees, before the public hearing next Thursday night.
> >Please give me some times you would be available early next week.
>>Thanks, Steve

Subject: Re: 300 Smith Street
Steve, If I recollect correctly, Tim felt the trees were not worth
keeping. I still think it would be nice to donate them to Parks &
Recs. They might be able to find a spot for them. They are skinny and
have not been taken care off; maybe they were not a good stock when
originally planted.
This should clarify all the issues as to trees. I will skip the trip
to the Fort but will be there on Thursday.
Thanks. Rosita
>Rosita,
>Thank you for your rapid reply.
>1 now understand why, and how, the trees along East Olive Street were
>removed. You will be planting 3 new street trees, at the required
>spacing, in that location. Also, there are 3 existing street trees along
>Smith Street and East Olive Street that will remain and be in the
>parkways along these streets, satisfying the street tree
>requirements. CORRECT.
>From my site visit and photos of the property I can see that the
>existing poplar trees in the front yard of the existing house are very
>tall, thin, leggy, and out of scale in that location. They appear to be
>inappropriate and will be replaced with more appropriate, new ornamental
>trees. CORRECT
>There are the 2 (1 think) evergreen trees that will not be part of your
>improved landscaping for the new development. They appear to be out of
>character with proposed Landscape Plan and, with additional growth in
>their present locations, would ultimately adversely impact pedestrian
>movement on the new sidewalk that you are adding along East Olive
>Street. Do you know if Tim Buchanan assessed the condition of these
>evergreen trees? READ RESPONSE ABOVE FIRST PARAGRAPH.
>The existing shrubs and flowers on the property are not of concern and
>are not evaluated by the City for significance as the trees are.
>1 do not think it is necessary for you to come to Fort Collins and meet
>with me unless you think there would be some value to a meeting. If so,
>1 am always happy to meet with you. SEE YOU THURSDAY.

>Steve, the trees on Olive Street were removed by the City's arborist.
>They were infected, dead, or they were shoots of trees. Please visit
