Irrigation ditch at RR Farm
Johnny,
I contacted Don Magnusorr'at the Lake Canal Company and he told me the irrigation lateral that crosses I-
25 passes through the RR Farm and then runs back under the Interstate is know as the Sand Dyke
Lateral. The reason it is routed that way is to get around a hill. He also gave me the contact for the lateral
as Greg Stieben (481-1246).
I talked with Greg and he was open to moving the ditch or piping it if so desired. He indicated that the
section of the ditch on the RR Farm isn't as much maintenance as other sections of the ditch but is he still
open to modifications to it. I asked about fees for processing or engineering review and he said at this
time there are none. If it became a recurring process he may have fees but none now. Please feel free to
contact him yourself. The City will require that Greg sign off on any plans to modify the ditch.
You had mentioned that you thought the pond on site may be used by the ditch company. That pond is
not part of the Sand Dyke Lateral so if you see diversion boxes they must have a role in what a past
farmer or the City used to use to irrigate the property.
Let me know if you have any more questions or give Greg a call.
