Re: Proposed Kinard Junior High Site
Dear Board Members,
As you may be aware, the District will be opening a core knowledge junior high school this fall
named Kinard Junior High, and temporarily housing it within the new Fossil Ridge High School.
As part of our 2000 Bond Program, the District will be constructing a new facility in southeast
Fort Collins to permanently house this program. It is currently scheduled to be open for the start
of school in August of 2006. After careful review of potential sites, the District has entered into
an option agreement with the Kechter Family to purchase 22-25 acres located in the northeast
corner of their farm. The site is located at the northwest corner of Ziegler and Trilby Roads.
Pursuant to C.R.S. §22-32-124, the District would like to submit the proposed site (see attached
aerial photograph) for your review and comment as to its conformance with the City's adopted
Master Plan. At the same time, geotechnical investigations, environmental assessments, survey,
etc. will be conducted to determine if the site is suitable for construction. It is anticipated that the
sale would be completed in July of 2004.
As we progress into the design process for this specific site, the District would like to continue
the relationship started with the Fossil Ridge High School project, and schedule work sessions
with the Board to review site and building components. We feel this was a very successful
process and valuable to both parties as well as the community. I will be prepared to answer any
specific questions you may have regarding this project at your June 11`h work session.
