Subject: 74 foot tall building NW comer of college and cherry
Dear Anne,
We are very concerned about the proposed plan to build a 74 foot building on
the
northwest comer of College and Cherry, which comes right to the sidewalk.
In size it is double the proposed development to the west of it "Mason
St. North" here the buildings are only 26' and 39' and will be set in the
middle of the
others so they are not so obtrusive. And in Block 33, Howes/ Maple/
Cherry/Mason, most of the
buildings are 20' and the largest is 54'. It will be the biggest building
on this side of town
We have moved from Chicago to Fort Collins, largely because of the beautiful
views here - and certainly were not anticipating FC being built up like NY!
There are many precedents of towns who have limited heights of buildings and
have prospered largely as a result of this initiative. One example is "De
Haan" on the Belgian coast in Europe... here a limit of 50 feet has ensured
most people get a decent view of the beautiful sea - like our beautiful
mountains here. De Haan is one of the few coastal towns that has taken this
initiative and the Belgian media largely credits its appeal to it. Please do
not let FC's charm be destroyed by gross oversizing...
Kindest Regards,
Robert Daenen
