Subject: Torgerson devel at College and Cherry
I have lived at 520 N. Sherwood St. for 5 years. I'm very concerned about a
proposed building that is going in on the northwest corner of College and Cherry. There are several sets
of tracks there, and this building is supposed to go into the triangle created by them. The building is
supposed to be 74' tall, and come right up to the
sidewalk. That appears to be a crowded design given the limitations of the site.
In addition, that height will tower over the neighbors on the adjoining corners and is double the
proposed development to the west of it "Mason St. North". The Mason St. N. project has 2/3 buildings
that are 26' and 1/3 which are 39' and will be set in the middle of the
others so they are not so obtrusive. This building will come right to the sidewalk. And in Block 33,
Howes/ Maple/ Cherry/Mason, most of the buildings are 20' and the largest is 54'.
It will be the biggest building on this side of town! There is no parking there and the developer is asking
the City to let the project go through without adequate parking. To me it is far too big for that spot and
totally inappropriate based on the other existing or proposed projects.
It is a very inappropriate development next to the park and river and as part of
a residential neighborhood. Given the crowding of businesses at that comer already, it will create traffic
problems, especially when the trains come through.
Thank -you for the opportunity to voice concerns about the proposed project in our neighborhood.
Best wishes, Nancy DuTeau
