Here's my comments:
Modification #1 - They have revised Figures 4 and 5 to illustrate how car #4 can exit the lift without car #3
obstructing the needed drive aisle space. This works for me. However, I believe the "summary" needs
additional work. The modification request is to reduce the number of required parking stalls from 31 to 30.
The summary explains that the solution (using lifts) satisfies the code "equally well or better than"
providing parking spaces off -site, which would generally be allowed by the code. I agree that the lifts as
illustrated are an acceptable method to provide extra parking in the given space. I don't believe though
that they've adequately stated the case in the summary as to how providing only 30 spaces is equal to or
better than providing 31 spaces.
Modification #2 - I don't have a problem with what's requested, but the parking table on page 2 should
convey accurate information to the decision maker. Specifically, the "provided" column for the two-sided
loading width needs to state 18.8'. Our current code classifies the proposed parking layout as "two-sided
loading" since parking stalls are provided on both sides of the drive -aisle. The code requires 24' of
backup, and the applicant is providing 18.8' of back-up. So that has to be indicated in the correct place.
It's true that we will be proposing a code change to bring our standard into line with LCUASS, but until
such time as that code change is approved, the material needs to correctly reflect our standards. Other
than that, I don't have a problem with what is requested.
