North American Lift Standards
The Automotive Lift Institute \y£ Lifr
(ALI) was formed in 1945 to
ensure that lifts were being o ,
constructed to adequate safety a `
standards. Rotary Lit was one of
the founding members, and has
been active in the organization
for over 50 years. Through the years, ALI
sponsored nationally accepted construction and
performance standards.
In 1992, the ALI and its members began a
rigorous testing and certification program for lifts.
The program uses an independent third -party
testing laboratory called ETL. ETL meets OSHA
requirements one of only 12
nationally recognized testing
laboratories in the country. ETL tests
the lifts to insure compliance with the
American National Standard ANSI/ALI
ALCTB-1998 and ANSI UL Standard 201 and
periodically inspects the factory where the lifts are
made. If the lift passes the test and the factory
meets the standards, then the lift may carry the
gold "ALI Ceritified/ETL Listed Mark."

ALI/ETL certification.
Today, a majority of the lifts sold in the U.S. and
Canada are ALI/ETL certified. This makes it very
easy for dealers to enjoy the confidence and
peace of mind that comes with selecting certified
lifts for their shop. Are the non -certified lifts safe?
Will they stand up to long term use? E.K. Fox,
president of ALI states, "The proof is in the testing!
Maybe they're safe, maybe not. Without that
ALI/ETL seal on the label, you can't really know for
certain what you're getting yourself into."

Corey --
I am in complete support of the modification to use the lifts and have the spaces provided by the lifts counted toward
the total requirement. It is reasonable and a creative way to address tight parking in the central business district.

Dear Mr. Seitz
Thank you for your inquiry about the possibility of leasing City -owned parking spaces to satisfy
the land use code requirements for the Urban Living Lofts project at 210/212 West Magnolia.
The City of Fort Collins Parking Services department is very supportive of residential
redevelopment in the downtown area, and your project seems like a worthwhile addition to
Downtown. As you know, the recently -completed Downtown Strategic Plan calls for residential
redevelopment as a way to diversify Downtown and preserve its cultural and social fabric as the
heart and soul of our City.
While the City does not have surface lots in the vicinity of your project, and therefore cannot
lease spaces to meet your parking requirements, Parking Services is intrigued by your proposal
to install parking lifts in order to increase the amount of parking availability associated with your
project. The use of parking lifts is commonplace in many eastern communities, and larger
communities in the west, that have higher densities than Fort Collins. As the downtown area in
Fort Collins becomes denser and continues to redevelop, it is important that we look at parking
alternatives such as the parking lift. The parking lift is recognized in the industry as a fast, safe,
and economical way to increase parking capacity. It is especially appropriate in settings where
there is no available surface parking, and the cost of subterranean or structured parking is not
feasible due to the size of the project.
It is unfortunate that there is not more surface parking available in the area near your project. In
my opinion, the parking lift is a viable alternative to address this short -fall. Please feel free to
contact me if you need more information or have additional questions.
Sincerely,
&14
